Road Resurfacing Programme Confirmed

The council has confirmed its highway resurfacing schedule for 2017-19.

In our ward Birch Tree Avenue, Chilham Way, Constance Crescent, Farleigh Avenue, Hurstfield, Larkfield Close and Trevor Close are due to be resurfaced, as well as the section of Chestnut Avenue between Queensway and Sylvan Way. Nearby, Layhams Road south of the police dog training centre is also included in the plans.

Would You Put Hayes on the Tube Map?

Transport for London are proposing a £3m scheme to extend the Bakerloo line to Hayes via Lewisham. This would mean direct services across the West End and into North London and possibly more frequent services (though whether these higher frequencies will extend to Hayes is unclear). However, there would be no direct connection to the City or London Bridge, and some dislike the idea of smaller trains (and without toilets).

Alcohol Licence bid withdrawn in Station Approach

StatAppSvcStn 20141031An application for a licence to sell alcohol at the service station at the bottom of Station Approach has been withdrawn after a knock-back from the licensing committee.

At a hearing recently Cllr. Graham Arthur, on behalf of residents, had argued against the application, following which the bid was deferred in order to gather data on the number of potential customers and other aspects. Shortly after, however, the application was formerly withdrawn by the applicant.

The proposals for the former care home at Isard House, Glebe House Drive, have been sent back by a council plans committee after your local councillors intervened on behalf of concerned residents.

The committee wants to see more space between the proposed units, more parking and for discussions to take place with local residents.

Kechill Gardens Appeal Dismissed

Two controversial planning applications for a new house between numbers 51 and 53 Kechill Gardens were refused by the Council earlier this year. The applicant appealed against the refusal, but the planning inspector has now upheld the Council’s decision stating, among other points, that the development would “appear cramped and awkward on its plot” and “would harm the character and appearance of the area”.

Bourne Way/Addington Road Safety Boost

The Council has now drawn up plans with a view to improving the safety of Bourne Way in the approach to the junction with Addington Road, Coney Hill Road and Tiepigs Lane.

The plans, which include new surfaces and amended white lining, have been agreed and it is now awaiting insertion into the work programme. Residents will be contacted directly by the Council prior to the start of work, which will also affect the easternmost section of Addington Road.

Improvements to the appearance of the tatty verges has also taken place, with the results becoming more evident as spring and summer progress.

The New Inn: Licensing Hearing Result

The application to vary the licence for The New Inn was heard this morning. The hearing was attended by Cllr. Neil Reddin and also representatives from the Hayes Village Association and Wickham Common Residents’ Association.

Following representations from those present, the committee agreed to allow drinking only with a meal for the final hour (11pm to midnight) on Sunday through to Thursday – the existing licence already allows opening until midnight, though the current owners only usually serve alcohol until 11pm.

It was also agreed to allow drinking in the outside areas (including the back garden) only until 10pm.

The applicant had already agreed to change their proposed closing time of 00:30 back to the existing midnight, and the committee allowed the serving of (non-alcoholic) refreshments until midnight.

The licensee expects the refurbishments to be completed on the ground floor (the new restaurant and bar area) in time for a mid-June opening.

We anticipate that the plans for the upstairs function room will require a seperate licensing application, following a planning application.
